Our Vision

Equity In The Center® envisions a future where nonprofit and philanthropic organizations adopt a Race Equity Culture™ focused on proactive counteraction of social inequities.

We must build a future where white dominant culture is dismantled within all social sector organizations, institutional and structural racism have been eliminated at all levels of nonprofit and philanthropic organizations, and race equity has been achieved within organizations, across the social sector, and in communities.

Our History

In 2015, participants in Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Social Sector Talent Pipelines Strategy & Learning Lab cohort program grappled with the question “Why are there so few people of color in the non-profit and social service sector?” It became clear that the vision for improving leadership in the sector needed to look beyond merely diversity to addressing structural racism. With that shift, Equity In The Center was formed.

In 2020, EIC became an independent 501c3. For a full timeline of our history, click the button below.
